Winter in Yokohama

Winter in Yokohama lasts from December to February, offering a unique holiday experience unlike any other season. The cool air and clear skies make the city feel cleaner and more romantic, with various light festivals (illuminations) adorning every corner.

Weather

  • Winter in Yokohama is very cold, so prepare appropriate clothing for a comfortable trip.

    • December: Average temperatures range from 2°C to 10°C. This is the beginning of winter, so temperatures are not yet too extreme.

    • January - February: These are the coldest months, with average temperatures dropping to 1°C to 8°C. Occasionally, light snow can fall, adding to the beautiful scenery.

  • Accommodation: Book accommodation in the Minato Mirai area for easy access to most attractions.

  • Recommended clothing: Layering is key. Wear a thick coat or jacket, a warm sweater, and thick trousers. Don't forget winter accessories like a scarf, gloves, and a hat to protect yourself from the piercing wind. Comfortable, warm boots are also essential, as you'll be doing a lot of walking.
