Weather

  • Summer weather in Yokohama is typically very hot and humid.

  • Average daily temperatures can reach over 30°C, especially in July and August. High humidity levels make the air feel hotter than it actually is, so you may find yourself sweating heavily during outdoor activities.

Activities

  • Watch a Fireworks Festival: Fireworks festivals (Hanabi Taikai) are one of the main attractions of summer in Japan. Yokohama has several spectacular fireworks festivals in the harbor area, such as the Kanagawa Shimbun Fireworks Festival or the fireworks display held at Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise.

  • Wear a Yukata: Put on a yukata (traditional summer kimono) and experience exploring the city like a local. Several shops rent yukata, and some even offer rickshaw tours.

  • Cruise Yokohama Bay: Take a cruise or a "Sea Bus" to enjoy views of the city and harbor from the water. Options range from daytime cruises to romantic sunset dinner cruises.

  • Relax at an Open-Air Beer Garden: Many restaurants and hotels in Yokohama open their open-air rooftop beer gardens during the summer. This is a fun way to enjoy a cold drink and beautiful views of the city.
